From major statewide offices to local issues and the recall election for Judge Persky, the June 5th ballot is packed full of important decisions for voters in Palo Alto and across California.
The June 5th election matters…but it’s a long ballot!
Let’s face it: voting for all those candidates and propositions is simply exhausting, even for the most enthusiastic citizen. Maybe that’s why many people (including perhaps we here at Palo Alto Pulse) have still not sat down to fill out the ballot. But with time running out, this weekend is the ideal moment to dust off that voter guide and get ‘er done!
Two great election guides make it easy to cast your vote
Lucky for you (and me), there are some fantastic online resources to help unpack all the jargon in the propositions and do a virtual interview with candidates for top jobs in California. Here are our favorites:
CALmatters
CALmatters Election Guide features video interviews with gubenatorial candidates, easy to use information about propositions sorted by topic, and insightful content to help voters make well-informed decisions quickly.
CALmatters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit journalism venture committed to explaining how California’s state Capitol works and why it matters. Founded in part by leadership from philanthropists in Palo Alto, CALmatters has quickly become one of the most trusted sources for news and information about politics and policy in the Golden State.
Palo Alto League of Women Voters
The Palo Alto League of Women Voters created this handy Voter Toolkit with links and information about where to vote, and how to make informed choices about the candidates and propositions. The California League of Women Voters also has an “Easy Voter Guide” to the June 5th ballot, which is very helpful.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The Palo Alto League of Women Voters is one of six local chapters and has been active for 79 years.
