With many thousands of ballots yet to count in the Palo Alto School Board race, the two candidates vying for the unresolved second seat are keeping a positive tone that is aligned with how they each ran their campaigns. As of November 5th, less than 100 votes separate the two contenders, Catherine Crystal Foster and Terry Godfrey.
In a note to supporters on November 5th, Catherine remarked that, “we knew all along that there were very strong candidates in this race, and it has been close from the start.” In addition, Catherine thanked her supporters for taking the high road in campaign communications, saying, “I am very proud that we ran a positive, forward-looking campaign for PAUSD schools from start to finish. I am so honored and grateful to have had your help in this endeavor.”
Terry also expressed gratitude to everyone who has backed her candidacy, saying, “In the meantime please know that I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received from you all.”
When asked by the Palo Alto Pulse about lack of resolution for this Palo Alto School Board election, Catherine said, “Terry has done a tremendous amount for the students in this district, and would be an outstanding board member.” Terry voiced similar thoughts, saying, “I’ll be content either way this ends. Catherine would make an excellent board member.”
Both candidates stressed that the final count could take weeks to certify.
Anyone who is interested in tracking the results on a daily basis can check the Registrar of Voters website for updates after 5pm each day. Ken Dauber is all but certain to win the first seat on the board although the race will not be considered final until the vote counting is complete and certified.
