Farmigo brings farm fresh produce and food to Gamble Garden in Palo Alto

If you want to buy fresh and seasonable food but have trouble getting to the Farmer’s Market on busy weekends, there’s a new solution: pick up your local produce at Gamble Garden beginning in January 2015. Farmigo, a company with a mission to “empower people to create a better way to eat by creating farm-to-neighborhood access to fresh food,” is opening a second Palo Alto location after the success of its operation at the Palo Alto JCC.

Farmigo uses technology to facilitate “Community-Supported Agriculture” or CSA programs in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area, which connect local growers and producers to buyers through weekly deliveries of produce and other food at convenient locations. Farmigo is a certified “B” corporation, which is a new kind of company with an explicit mission to make a social impact while also turning a profit.

The new Farmigo program at Gamble Garden is being championed by Scott Saslow, a Palo Alto parent of two girls who lives in the neighborhood and wanted to set up a CSA close to his home. Scott’s enthusiasm for Farmigo started when he traveled to Watsonville to visit one of the company’s organic farm partners. “It was such a cool experience to see how the vegetables and fruit are grown,” Scott said. “I wanted to give more people in Palo Alto easy access to local produce and food. Gamble Garden seemed like a perfect location.”

Farmigo’s simple web interface and completely flexible service were the biggest selling points for Scott, a business consultant who previously worked at Microsoft. “I love how the website allows you to choose exactly what you want so you don’t end up with a box of just kale or squash,” Scott explained. “And you can turn your subscription on and off to fit the needs of your family.” Farmigo offers a huge range of products from local growers and producers, including produce, baked goods, eggs, dairy, meat and more.mission-banner
